As I sit here reflecting on the last decade that seemed to fly by, I am also looking forward to the next decade and setting goals for me personally as well as Genbukan Makoto Dojo which I not only wish to attain, but to exceed!

The last 10 years were VERY difficult for me personally… Among other things, I lost both of my parents and Grandmother whom I was very close with within a few years of each other, had to sell my boyhood home due to our old neighborhood becoming basically unlivable for someone with three young daughters, started a business, experienced immense financial hardships and lost myself in the process!

As for the Dojo, we have seen many people come and go, for some it was for the better, for others, we still miss them and wish them well… The Dojo has been very well stocked at times with people to where it was getting very hard to teach that many people, to becoming very small to where I wondered how I would keep the doors open. But as always, we have survived and have made it through!

The last 10 years have also been amazing in many respects, personally I have gotten to travel the world, seen things I only dreamed of seeing, met people I never thought I’d meet, and been taught things I never thought I would be taught. I have endured many many tests some of which pushed me to my very limits where I was sure I wouldn’t be able to make it. but I passed them all and have been reborn as a result…

The Dojo is now at a level where what we have to offer and my ability to teach it, has never been better! I have made many great friends and met many great people all of whom taught me so much…

As I look forward to the next decade, on a personal level, I am now determined to become the man I always wanted to be. I know what I need to do, I have been taught what I need to know, and have undergone the trials I needed to undergo.. Now, now I am ready to emerge from behind the shadow of my former self, and stand proud and powerful to not only help myself, but to help all of those whom I come into contact with!

As far as the Dojo is concerned, I am VERY confident that in the next 10 years, the Genbukan Makoto Dojo will have many branches, and the main trunk will be very large and powerful! I am determined to teach and share these arts with as many good people with a true interest as I can…

If you are a student, I ask that you pledge to yourself to make it through this next year, keep with your goals and do not let anything sway you! Help me and your fellow students to make Genbukan Makoto Dojo even greater than it already is! Gambatte Kudasai!!!

For those of you who have not yet joined us, I welcome you! I promise you a training experience like no other at a Dojo like no other. Supported by wonderful people all there to help you achieve your goals..

Bring on 2010 the year of the Tiger! As I am ready to meet it with the heart and determination of a Tiger! What about you? I invite you to come with me!

The Genbukan Makoto Dojo will reopen @ 6:00 pm Friday January 1st 2010 for our first training of the new year, adult and children classes will be combined into a special hatsu keiko class followed by a celebratory dinner at Sakura Japanese restaurant.  Please contact the Dojo for more details. We hope to see all of you there!
